BBQ FLAVOUR MARABU CHARCOAL 10KG
Marabu charcoal is made from the cap of the Marabu plant, a wild, highly aggressive plant of African origin. This plant grows into bushes and trees as tall as ten metres. In the nineteenth century, the Marabu plant was imported to Cuba, where the country later fell into a severe economic crisis, giving the Marabu plant free rein to grow. Today, the Marabu plant is a distinctive part of the Cuban landscape because of the exceptional properties of Marabu charcoal.
Marabu charcoal is a dense charcoal with high calorific power. It burns for a long time, even at high temperatures, and produces very little smoke due to complete carbonisation. Although it lights slightly less easily than Acacia charcoal, Marabu charcoal does burn longer, making it extra economical to use. It has an average burn time of 4.5 hours and a carbon percentage of as much as 80-90%. Marabu Charcoal is 100% natural and contains no chemical additives or fuels. The coarse sorting of larger and smaller chunks of charcoal gives the fire a nice glow, with chunks of 50 to 200 mm sticking together slightly while still allowing plenty of oxygen to flow through.
Marabu charcoal is suitable for both fast and slow barbecue applications and can be used in open and closed barbecues such as the Kamado. To make Marabu charcoal, the charcoal burner builds a pile of branches (meiler) sorted by size and weight. Craftsmanship determines the quality of the product, resulting in a process from raw material to finished product that can take many hours.

THE STORY BEHIND MARABU CHARCOAL
In the history of Cuba, which fell into economic crisis after the removal of Soviet financial support, the Marabu plant was given free rein to grow en masse. This plant, with its aggressive growth, has played a vital role in charcoal production. Marabu charcoal is characterised by its almost pure charcoal content, resulting in a smokeless and odourless fuel with a longer lifespan.
